Velasquez will Fight Frank Mir

There has been plenty of speculation that had been doing the rounds over the last few weeks as to who the former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez would face on the fight card of UFC 146, slated to be held on the 26th of May in Las Vegas and finally, the announcement has been made that Velasquez will go head to head with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva. It was originally thought that Dana White would keep Frank Mir as his opponent in spite of the vacancy in the main event due to Alistair Overeem’s failed dope test, but now, Mir will be facing off against the current UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos in the main event of the fight card.

The UFC was building up UFC 146 as a battle between the two former UFC Heavyweight Champions in Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez but now that things have changed, they have brought in Antonio Silva to the picture as well. It is being believed that the winner of the Silva versus Velasquez match will be given a title shot against the winner of the Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir match.

Although, the President of the UFC Dana White had initially insisted that Velasquez will face Mir no matter what at UFC 146, it is being understood that even if the two lose their respective matches, they will eventually face off against each other before the turn of the year in a main event at any other UFC fight card.

Cain Velasquez, who lost the UFC Heavyweight Championship to Junior Dos Santos on the 12th of November would love to face him once again for the title but even an opponent of the caliber of Frank Mir would do for him as he aims to get back into the Championship picture.

VELASQUEZ STILL SUFFERING

Cain Velasquez was suffering from shoulder injuries. He has recently gone under treatment and surgery. After his treatment, his ring match was against Junior Dos Santos. Cain is known to be a much better wrestler than Dos in UFC. But after his treatment it was his first match.

Doctor said that Cain was not fully prepared for this particular match. He has suffering from great pain before the treatment. It will take certain amount of time for his full recovery. The injury has made him more stiff and shaky in the ring. His flexibility in the ring has also diminished. It was very early for Cain to enter the ring against Dos. He could have stayed outside the ring for few more days.

An athlete cannot perform well without injury problem. After a surgery, an individual has to take proper rest before performing in the ring. Wrestling requires total body fitness. Cain Velasquez was lacking this fitness due to his shoulder problems. This wrestler has not lost any matches since his start of career in the UFC. But in the match between Dos and Cain, Dos overwhelmed this wrestler very easily. He took the advantage of his injury in the match.

It seemed that Cain was less aggressive in the ring which gave an extra advantage to Dos. Most of the wrestlers in the world are opportunists and there is no harm being an opportunist. After all a win is a win. It does not matters how a win comes for a wrestler. Doctors believe that Cain Velasquez will soon be in proper form.

Cain is very upset about the recent loss. He is preparing himself for the next ring match. He admitted that he was bit shaky inside the ring which became the point of advantage for the opponent.
