Cain Velasquez is a professional mixed martial artist from the United States of America who currently fights for the promotion Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC where he has been the UFC Heavyweight champion as well. As a wrestler during his time in college, Velasquez has been an All America on two occasions while he was at the Arizona State University situated in Tempe, Arizona and during his time at the Iowa Central Community College, he has been a Junior College National Champion as well. He went to school at the Kofa High School that is located in Yuma, Arizona and while he was there under the training of Shawn Rustad and Marty Nilbo, he had a record of 110-10, which brought him two 5A State Championships in Arizona. NBC Sports, Sherdog and ESPN rank Cain Velasquez as the 2nd best Heavyweight fighter in the circuit as per the latest ratings. Velasquez has been the winner of the Ni-Go Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt championships after starting to practice submission grappling only one year before and at present, he is under the training of Dave Camarillo and holds the brown belt. He is a regular at the Kickboxing Academy which is located in San Jose, California.
Born on the 28th of July, 1982 to a Mexican-American family in Salinas, California, Velasquez moved to a Arizona with his family when he was very little and attended high school there. He wrestled for four straight years for his school and was able to compile a record of 110-10 and was also the captain of the school wrestling and football teams as well. While on his way to earning an Associate’s Degree at the Iowa Central Community College, Cain Velasquez was crowned the NJCAA National Champion in wrestling. During his time at the Arizona State University, he wrestled for three years and was able to compile a record that read 86-17, which placed him 5th in the overall national standings of 2005 and 4th in 2006.
His impressive wrestling career paved the way for a career in mixed martial arts and after some initial success with wins over Brock Lesnar, Ben Rothwell and other such greats of the fight form, he quickly signed up for the UFC, making his debut against Brad Morris. Cain Velasquez won the UFC Heavyweight Championship by a knockout of Brock Lesnar in the first round and currently, he has a record of 9-1 in his UFC career.
