Velasquez will Fight Frank Mir
There has been plenty of speculation that had been doing the rounds over the last few weeks as to who the former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez would face on the fight card of UFC 146, slated to be held on the 26th of May in Las Vegas and finally, the announcement has been made that Velasquez will go head to head with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva. It was originally thought that Dana White would keep Frank Mir as his opponent in spite of the vacancy in the main event due to Alistair Overeem’s failed dope test, but now, Mir will be facing off against the current UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos in the main event of the fight card.
The UFC was building up UFC 146 as a battle between the two former UFC Heavyweight Champions in Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez but now that things have changed, they have brought in Antonio Silva to the picture as well. It is being believed that the winner of the Silva versus Velasquez match will be given a title shot against the winner of the Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir match.
Although, the President of the UFC Dana White had initially insisted that Velasquez will face Mir no matter what at UFC 146, it is being understood that even if the two lose their respective matches, they will eventually face off against each other before the turn of the year in a main event at any other UFC fight card.
Cain Velasquez, who lost the UFC Heavyweight Championship to Junior Dos Santos on the 12th of November would love to face him once again for the title but even an opponent of the caliber of Frank Mir would do for him as he aims to get back into the Championship picture.
